Our Transfer Station

The Transfer Station accepts household waste and recycling at no charge to RM ratepayers and accepts certain other items for a fee. When you arrive at the Transfer Station, the attendant will review your items for disposal and direct you accordingly. Your name and land location (RM address) must be provided to the attendant upon entry, and any items subject to a fee will be receipted by the attendant on site. The Transfer Station accepts cash and cheques for payment.

Transfer Station Hours

Summer Hours (May 1-Sept 30)

 Friday-Monday — 11am-7pm

Winter Hours (Oct 1-Apr 30)

Friday – Sunday — 11am-7pm

The Transfer Station can be accessed  by turning west off of Highway 55 onto Township Road 565, which is 5km north of Big River from Main Street.

Rates

The Transfer Station accepts household garbage and paper/cardboard at no charge, which must be separated and deposited in the bins as directed at the Transfer Station.

Final rates will be determined by the Transfer Station attendant and are based on volume and weight. The minimum charge is $5.00, except those disposing of household garbage & household recyclables.

We recommend large items be taken to Highway 55 Waste Management near Canwood off Highway 55.

The following items are not accepted at the Transfer Station

  • Hazardous materials and chemical containers
  • Oil, oil filters, oil jugs
  • Paint
  • Concrete
  • Shingles
  • Vehicles/Parts
  • Tires (tire recycling offered at Big River Truck & Trailer)  
  • Asbestos, sumpage
  • Contaminated soils
  • Animal carcasses
  • Grain, grain bags
  • Batteries
  • Electronics (annual recycling event offered by the Town & RM of Big River)
