Since 1970, the Big River & District Recreation & Cultural Board has worked to provide sustainable recreational activities and cultural programming for community members in the Town of Big River and RM of Big River No. 555.

4 Council members are appointed by the Municipalities, which includes 2 representatives from each of the Town of Big River Council and RM of Big River No. 555 Council. The Board is responsible for the operation of recreational facilities owned by the Municipalities, including the appointment of recreation staff.
