Since 1970, the Big River & District Recreation & Cultural Board has worked to provide sustainable recreational activities and cultural programming for community members in the Town of Big River and RM of Big River No. 555.

8 voluntary members are appointed by the Municipalities, which include representation from the Town of Big River Council, RM of Big River No. 555 Council, and Public Members at Large. The Board is responsible for the operation of recreational facilities owned by the Municipalities, including the appointment of recreation staff.
