The below information does NOT affect your curbside garbage/recycle, but please see the above schedule for your curbside garbage/recycle schedule effective July 1st, 2019.

Starting June 15th, 2019, the Town of Big River is starting a new program to manage town residential waste that currently goes to the Landfill/Transfer Station north of Big River. The program will be an environmentally responsible and affordable way to properly dispose of waste.

The garbage that you currently take to the Landfill/Transfer Station north of Town will be accepted at the Town yard at 559 Hoehn Road (Industrial Road) and not at the current landfill/transfer station. This affects only the Town residential properties.

Schedule: Starting June 15th, 2019

  • The Yard (559 Hoehn Road) will be open:
  • Mondays from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and,
  • Saturdays from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
  • * Do not drop off items at the gate when it is not open.

This program is replacing the annual Town Cleanup Day. Residential property owners can bring their items to the Town yard during the designated hours free of charge.

Yard Waste:

Branches, twigs etc. can be brought to the yard. Please note that if you have larger pieces of wood, the Regional Park accepts it for fire wood. Call the Regional Park at 306-469-2232 to make arrangements to drop off.

Items not accepted:

  • Propane tanks, tires, shingles, construction waste, concrete, oil, oil filters, paint cans. These items will need to go to the Highway 55 Waste Management near Canwood.
  • Electronics, TVs, computers, printers – take to SARCAN
  • Residential property owners who are planning to do renovations can make arrangements to have a 6 yard bin brought to their yard for construction waste. When the bin is full or job is complete, the property owner would then contact Highway 55 Waste Management to have the bin tipped and returned to the Town yard. This cost would be the property owner’s.

* Please remember that smaller recyclables items can be put into your blue recycle container at home.

* Also, please note that we accept large items, however if you are going through to the city to purchase a new washer, dryer, fridge, stove, furniture, mattress, etc. you can also drop your old ones off for a fee at Highway 55 Waste Management (by Canwood) on your way to the city, or

McDonald Metals Ltd. in Prince Albert accepts all of the metal items free of charge 24 hours/day @ Hwy 3 42nd St.East.
